Epic Shrimp and Grits at Jonah’s

After mowing most of the lawn this morning Becks and I went up to Thomasville, Georgia for date day. We headed downtown to grab some lunch and decided to try Jonah’s Fish & Grits. It is in the building where Liam’s used to be before they moved next door. Upon entering we were seated at a table by the window and took in our surroundings. On the far wall hung various depictions of the biblical Jonah and overhead were some funky chandeliers. The space was minimalistic with a cool vibe that I liked.

The waitstaff was very attentive and after bringing us our drinks we ordered. Becks had a pan fried shrimp dish while I decided to try their shrimp and grits. Shrimp and grits are my favorite Southern food to eat and I was looking forward to trying Jonah’s take on this classic. When the bowl arrived I was anxious to give it a try and I was not disappointed. The grits were very creamy and had white cheddar cheese mixed in with them. The shrimp were perfectly cooked and the combination of the two was wonderful. I told Becks that their shrimp and grits were some of the best I have ever had and were better than the bowl I had in Charleston at Poogan’s Porch.

After finishing up lunch we walked around downtown and checked out the various shops. Becks also bought some invitations for her baby shower to save her mom the trip up to Thomasville at a new shop called Loli’s.

We then headed over to the movie theatre to catch Fireproof. Our friend Kara had seen it before its official release and raved about it so we decided we wanted to see it too. the movie was made by a church in Albany, Georgia and starred Kirk Cameron. It was about a firefighter whose marriage was on the rocks but by changing the priorities in his life he was able to show his wife how much she meant to him. Becks and I were both glad we saw the movie as it had a really positive message about the sacredness of marriage, being a Christian, and allowing Jesus Christ to shape your life. By the end of the movie the packed theater did not have a dry eye in it.

When we got back home we watched the Colorado v. Florida State football game that I had recorded on the DVR. It was nice to watch the ‘Noles actually be able to run the ball and win the game 39-21. Christian Ponder also looked a little more comfortable and I am hoping he continues to improve next weekend as the face the hated ‘Canes.
