Tijuana Flats is a chain restaurant serving Tex-Mex food in 5 states. The majority of its locations are in Florida. Tallahassee is home to 2 of their restaurants. This afternoon we met our friends from Orlando at the Mahan Drive location. The restaurant is tucked in the left corner and after parking we headed in with the kids.
Our friends were already seated and we joined them. The restaurant’s decor was funky with lot of graffiti inspire art on the walls. I liked the casual laid back feel it gave to the place. After looking over the menu I went to the front to place our order. At Tijuana Flats you order at the front and then they bring your food out to the table. A server will also fill your drinks and get anything else you need. During our visit our server was attentive and took very good care of all 8 of us. The dining room was also spotless, or at least it was until our 4 kids got after it.
Becky ordered two tacos while I made a game time decision and went with the Bangin’ Chicken Burrito. It was advertised as crispy chicken tossed in their Smack My Ass Bangin’ Chicken sauce, loaded with grilled onions, green peppers, tomatoes, cheese, ranch dressing and served Tijuana Size.
The food appeared a few minutes later in red plastic baskets lined with paper. Plain tortilla chips accompanied the burrito. Before busting into my meal I went up to the hot sauce bar. The sauces ranged from mild to ridiculously hot and were accompanied with little facing indicating the amount of pain each would inflict. I opted for one of their medium sauces. A bit later our server brought us their Georgia Peach and Vidalia Onion Sauce. It was a nice balance of sweetness and spice. I enjoyed it. My only complaint was that I wish the cups for their hot sauces were larger than a thimble.
The burrito itself was a large flour tortilla that was tightly rolled and grilled. I took a bite. Inside were large pieces of white meat chicken that had been batter, fried and tossed in a spicy sauce. It was basically a buffalo chicken finger chopped up and tossed in a burrito with some added fixins. I love anything covered in spicy wing sauce and as a result I was a fan of the Bangin’ Chicken Burrito. The vegetables were also fresh and the burrito was more than enough to fill me up.
Tijuana Flats was a good place to meet our friends. It was relaxed, offered good food at a reasonable price and was very kid friendly. I would go back for another burrito and plan on joining their Flatheads mailing lists so I can take advantage of their coupons and other deals.

I love Tijuana Flats. They have a $5 taco special on Tuesdays- 2 tacos (chx or beef), chips and a drink. It’s a highlight in my week.
That is a really good deal! Have you ever tried Chipolte? My tweeps are always raving about it.

Agreed! I was writing this at 11:30 p.m. while watching television. I think I caught most of my mistakes. 🙂
Most people I’ve talked to think the prices are a little high for what you get. Do you agree?
I thought the prices were reasonable. The total for both our meals was $13 which is not too bad.
