This past Saturday the 63rd Watermelon Festival was held in downtown Monticello. The day kicked off with a 5k and then rolled into a parade full of firetrucks, antique vehicles, and various winners of the Miss Watermelon Pageant. I skipped the race, but caught the parade from the steps of Jefferson County’s historic courthouse with my kids. As the last float passed I steered us towards the area packed with food vendors. Stung along E. Pearl street were a collection of food trucks including a brick pizzeria, one dishing up burgers, and one serving snow cones.
M.E. Tasty Taco Truck was pulled along side of the historic Wyrick Simmons House. It was painted bright pink and caught my attention. Although it was only 10:30 in the morning, I asked Little Man if he wanted a taco. He replied with a quick yes, and I secured Father or the Year Honors. Miss Julia approved of the color and squealed as I pushed her stroller towards the window. Various specialties were advertised in bright lime green lettering. A smaller menu written on a dry erase board displayed in one of the side windows listed the daily offerings. On this particular day M.E.
