The view from Brasstown Bald was beautiful, and after walking around the observation deck in a light drizzle we made our way down from the highest peak in Georgia. On the way back to the cabin we passed through the town of Blairsville. The kids, Becky, and I were all hungry and stopped for lunch at Muffy’s Mountain Burgers.
We pulled into the parking lot as rain began falling at a steady clip. Grabbing the kids we sprinted into the restaurant. Muffy’s is housed in a small yellow and green painted building. The seating area is a former screened-in porch dotted with heavy wooden tables and chairs. An aging projection screen TV aired cable news.
A large menu was attached next to the window where orders are placed. Muffy’s serves up burgers, chicken, hot dogs, fish, and numerous sides. Becky and I both ordered the Muffy’s Mountain burger while the kids wanted a hot dog. I opted for tater tots as my side while Becky went for the onion rings. Four fountain drinks completed our order.
The restaurant is a one man show run by a friendly guy from the northeast. He relocated to Georgia and told me he has been running Muffy’s ever since. I watched as he took orders, worked the grill, plated food and served meals. He was one busy man but kept things moving. After a short wait our lunch was ready and I made my way back to the table occupied by my hungry family.
The ½ pound burger was served up of a soft bun and topped by fresh lettuce, thick cut tomatoes, two slabs of onion, dill pickle slices, and two slices of yellow American cheese. The burger was nicely cooked. It was juicy on the inside with a bit of backyard char on the outside. The tater tots were golden brown, crisps, salty, and a fun alternative to run of the mill French fries. Becky enjoyed her burger and really liked the onion rings.
The kids’ meals also hit the spot. The hot dogs were huge, and the jumbo sized frank dwarfed the small bun. Both kids worked their way through their lunch with a smile on their faces. I would have asked for a bite, but both dogs were slathered in ketchup.
Muffy’s was the perfect place for a no-frills filling lunch and I was glad we paid it a visit. The restaurant is located at 364 Blue Ridge Street, Blairsville, Georgia.
