A couple of weeks ago I noticed the sign of a new hot dog place in downtown Thomasville. Before going to see Frozen for the third time we stopped at Hot Diggity Dogs for a quick bite. Mason and Julia were excited while Becky and I are always up for a good dog.
Hot Diggity Dog is located at 310 S. Broad Street. Opening the glass front door we were greeted by the owner who was mixing a large silver pot. We took a seat at the bar and glanced over the plastic clad menus.
To say their offerings were limited would be kind. Hot Diggity Dogs offers three choices: hot dogs, nachos, or pizza. With a name like Hot Diggity Dogs I was led to believe there would be all sorts of exciting topping choices. I was mistaken as Hot Diggity Dogs serves classic Coney dogs, and toppings were limited to mustard, chili, and onions. They also have ketchup for the kids. I ordered two Coney dogs. The kids ordered their hot dogs with ketchup, while Becky opted for mustard, onions, and no chili. A couple bags of chips and a few sodas completed our meals.
Waiting for our dogs I surveyed the interior, which can best be described as odd. To the left large pleather chairs on castors from the 1970s surround several tables. Flat screen televisions beamed Keno numbers. A long bar lined with stools ran the length of the interior. At the back a velvet rope with a “no entrance” sign blocked a set of stairs leading to an unknown destination. It felt more like a Keno parlor serving snacks than an actual restaurant.
The hot dogs were prepared right in front of us and after a few moments arrived in wax paper lined baskets. My Coneys were topped with chopped onions, yellow mustard, and slathered with chili. The chili, as the standard requires, was devoid of beans. I inhaled my two dogs as Mason and Miss Julia snacked on their ketchup covered dogs. Becky enjoyed her’s too.
The snack bar/Keno room was clean and service was friendly. Be aware this is more snack bar than edgy hot dog joint, and for what it is, Hot Diggity Dogs serves up a decent Coney. The restaurant does did not display their hours of operation, or have an online presence. Hot Diggity Dogs can be contacted by telephone at (229) 236-5151.
