Iguana Cantina Bar & Grill recently opened its doors at 2736 Capital Cir. NE. A black sign with a stylized reptile exclaimed the restaurant was open and serving up two-for-on margaritas and draft beers. I pulled into the parking lot wishing it was happy hour and looking forward to lunch with my two friends.
Andrew and I got out of car at the same exact time. We walked into the side door and met our mutual friend Jeremiah who had been seated in the back corner of the restaurant underneath a TV showing a soap opera. It was very dark in the booth, and we moved to one of the many homemade high top tables that fill the restaurant. Despite being the height of the lunch rush, Iguana was mostly empty. That place was crap when it was the other name too. Yet, tons of people said they loved it. They don’t know good Mexican!
It was not good when it was Los Amigos (I think that was the name). Even for Americanized food this was pretty meh. I cannot see them staying open for very long unless they step their game up.
Is this where Scales & Tales used to be? I have fond memories of trying to beat a Doak crowd to that place in 90’s when Tally was short on post game meal options.
I think so Bill. Did they had fish tanks in the restaurant? I think I may have been there once or twice before S&Ts closed.
