Every now and then I receive requests to sample terrifying items from America’s purveyors of fast food. The waffle taco from Taco Bell was awful, and a friend from college has requested Little Caesar’s soft pretzel crust pizza make an appearance on the blog.  Most recently a Twitter follower asked me to give Wendy’s pulled pork BBQ sandwich a try.

In an effort to give the masses what they want, laughing as I suffer, I made the short drive to a nearby Wendy’s located at 3439 Thomasville Road, Tallahassee, FL. It was the peak of the lunch time rush and a line of cars stretched around the building.  Crawling towards the menu board I spotted a sign telling BBQ loves to rejoice which listed the three sauces available on the pulled pork sandwich, spicy, smokey and sweet.

Popping over the paper bag revealed a bright red sandwich box with a smokey sauce sticker applied to the top. I popped it open to reveal a large bun. Smokey sauced pork slipped out from between the sandwich and coles slaw spilled onto the cardboard.  I took a bite and was greeted by reheated pork smothered in chemical tasting smokey sauce and bland mayo slaw. To make matters worse, the bun was also semi-stale. It was a bad BBQ sandwich.

I turned my attention to the small side of fries on the bottom of the bag. I scooped it out and placed it on top of the flattened bag.  They were moderately warm, salty and adequate.

The pulled pork BBQ sandwich from Wendy’s is full of regret and empty calories. I am glad I crossed this item off my to do list and never plan to eat their faux-BBQ again.

      • The second worst was at some stop on Corridor Z between Columbus and Albany. Parrot Trading Company, I think. The absolute worst was what they serve at White Diamond in Bonaire, which, since you can’t abide cooking-in-sauce, you would really, *really* hate.

      • I will make a note to avoid both of those places. My view on cooking in sauce is to hide the flavors of sub-par pork. If I wanted crock-pot BBQ sandwiches, I’d make them myself. 🙂
