Shula’s 347

Shula's 347 - Tallahassee, FL

Roses, grape taffy, mix-tapes, and macarons shipped from Savannah, are just a few of Kirsten’s favorite things.  I had supplied all of them as surprises one week.  By the last surprise, a manicure appointment, Kirsten knew I was up to something. The handcrafted ring had arrived in the middle of the week and never left my side.  Nervous would be an understatement for how I felt as we walked towards the spot where I planned to propose.  In the Chain of Parks, a cellist played our song and I got down on one knee to ask Kirsten to make me the happiest man in the world.  She said yes!

After we sat on one of the park benches for several minutes, reflecting on our love and happiness, we made our way towards Shula’s 347 for dinner.   Kirsten’s parents joined us at Level 8, and while we waited for our reservation, we all toasted our future with delicious cocktails to the sounds of a Latin inspired band.  At the appointed hour, we took the elevator downstairs. We were seated in a curved highback booth and were handed several menus.  As we basked in post-engagement giddiness, we took an extra long time to make our selections.  Crispy ravioli were ordered as an appetizer. Kirsten and I opted to split a spinach salad, and her parents joined suit.  I opted for the 14 oz New York Strip while Kirsten selected filet medallions.  Her parents settled on a double cut pork chop to split.

The crispy ravioli arrived first.  Several lightly breaded ravioli were stuffed with three cheeses and served with a warm tomato coulis on top of a bed of fried spaghetti.  The ravioli were crispy on the outside and the gooey cheese went well with the accompanying sauce.  The fried spaghetti, a very tasty garnish, had a nutty flavor and we snacked on the strands while waiting for our meals to arrive.  The salads were also delicious, with just the right hint of sweet provided by the candied pecans and balsamic dressing, which was a good match for the tartness of the cranberries and goat cheese.
