After a 4-plus hour drive we arrived at our destination, Montgomery, AL and pointed ourselves towards Dreamland BBQ for lunch. Despite being hot outside, it was pleasant in the shade, and we were seated in the alley next to the restaurant. Our drink order was taken and menus appeared on the table courtesy of the waitress.
Without looking at the menus we both knew we were ordering ribs. Kirsten also decided to get some pulled pork for research purposes. The only remaining question was what side to pair with our slabs of meat. Following some negotiations we decided to get fries, mac ‘n cheese, Brunswick stew and potato salad.
The plates of food arrived after a brief wait. My rib plate was topped with a slice of white bread and accompanied by French fries and a small dish of mac ‘n cheese. I picked up a rib and separated it from its neighbor. The meat was dressed with a tangy orange sauce and pulled off the bone with a slight tug. It had a nice smoked flavor and was tender. As for my sides, the fries were acceptable and the mac ‘n cheese was deliciously cheesy and creamy.
Kirsten’s pulled pork was also pretty good. It was moist and topped with a dusting of the same sauce that was applied to the ribs. The Brunswick stew, a BBQ side I am slowly learning to like, consisted of corn, onions, tomatoes and pork. As Brunswick stews goes, this was a decent offering and working together we quickly reached the bottom of the small bowl. The potato salad was mayonnaise based, heavy on the mayo, and of the four sides was my least favorite.
While not the original location in Tuscaloosa (that place is still on my list), our lunch at Dreamland was delicious. The ribs were some of Before we left Kirsten bought a quart of BBQ sauce as both a souvenir and to use around the house.

Isn’t Dreamland BBQ opening a place in Tallahassee at the Tallahassee Mall (which I think is being renamed Tallahassee Centre)?
You are correct Laura. They will be opening up a new location at the Tallahassee Centre.
