When I heard Gritz N Greenz, a new restaurant dishing up home-cooked Southern food, opened on Tennessee Street I added it to my list of places to visit. On a toasty Monday afternoon, I stopped in for lunch with my friend Thomas.
The menu is packed with Southern favorites including fried green tomatoes, country fried steak, and chicken and waffles. A daily meat and three was priced at $7.97 and featured a different main dish each day. On the day we visited, a Monday, it was meatloaf. Tuesday through Friday fried chicken, roast beef, catfish, and pork chops (in that order) are offered.
I decided to try the shrimp and grits while Thomas went for the meatloaf special with mac n cheese, collards, and coleslaw. Service was quick, and in no time our meals were delivered to our table. The serving of shrimp and grits came in a small bowl. Six nicely cooked shrimp were nestled into the creamy cheesy grits and topped with a savory sauce. While the accompanying hush puppies were a tad overcooked, the shrimp and grits were delicious. For more on Gritz N Greenz read the full review on Tallahassee.com.

Um… Is every worker there part owner, or getting paid normal minimum wage rather than server minimum? Because otherwise, that half-the-tips-to-charity thing might actually be illegal…
I have no idea Stephanie, that’s a question for their attorney.
