Yosties Chili Parlor

Since we discovered a new playground on FAMU Way the kids have been clamoring for a return visit to swing, jump, and climb. With a slight nip in the air and Christmas Vacation energy bubbling to the surface we stopped by Yosties Chili Parlor for a pre-playground lunch.

Tucked away in plain sight at 915 Railraod Ave the unassuming shop is home to Tallahassee’s best chili dog. For those wanting something aside from a hotdog, Yosties also offers Krak-Sketti (chili spaghetti), nachos (with chili), pepperoni rolls (chili add-on available), and walking tacos (chili on tater chips).

Reviewing the menu I selected the classic two dog combo ($6.00) served all the way with a drink and chips. Two homemade chilis are available to top the dogs, and I asked for one mild and one spicy. Mason and Julia were less adventurous and asked for their hot dogs naked.

We selected a seat at the long bar top that runs along the side of the shop and waited for our meals. Four paper wrapped hot dogs arrived and I quickly spotted the two that were slathered in chili. The chili is a mixture of ground beef and spices. All the way included onions and a squirt of yellow mustard underneath the dog and chili layers.

The chili was so thick that at the urging of the owner I turned the hot dog upside down. Not one drop spilled onto the paper. Both chili dogs were fantastic, but the clear winner was the spicy offering with just enough heat to take the humble chili dog to a thing of beauty. Served with side of Utz potato chips, lunch hit the spot.

As for the tiny people, they gave Yosties their seal of approval and devoured their lunches. The atmosphere at Yosties is laid back, welcoming, and fun. Yosties is open Mon – Thu 11:00 am to 6:00 am, Fri 11:00 am to 3:00 am, and Sat 11:00 am – 4:00 pm. For more information find Yosties on Facebook.
