Breakfast at the Bagel Market & Bistro

The Bagel Market and Bistro - Tallahassee, FL

Heading out of town I needed a quick breakfast, but wanted to avoid the chains.  After reading my friend Sarah’s thoughts on the Bagel Market & Bistro I decided to give them a try.  The restaurant’s address is listed as 6267 Old Water Oak Drive, Suite 105.  For those readers asking where that is, the cafe fronts Thomasville Road in the same new plaza that house’s Coosh’s Bayou Rouge.  Pulling in the first thing I noticed was the expansive patio dotted with tables and bright yellow umbrellas.  Large glazed pots full of greenery encircled the tables.  It was a very inviting area, and I wished I had time to savor a cup of coffee in the cool morning air.

The building that houses the Bagel Market & Bistro is pleasing to the eye. Brick rings the bottom and the top is a light tan with numerous windows.  Copper gutters drop from the roof line, and the copper is picked up in the metal awning that shades the front window.  Crooked neck light fixtures extended from the sides of the building.  It was a very inviting spot.

Opening the door revealed a clean modern interior.  A cable news station filled the flat screen television towards the front of the store.  The walls were white and a long counter stretched the length of the space’s left side. To the right modern looking tables provided seating.  In the middle was the coffee station complete with sugar and cream. Towards the rear several booths lined the back wall.     The differences between the more traditional cafe feel outside, and the much more streamlined interior were stark.

Behind the counter workers busily assembled orders and filled cups of coffee.  The Bagel Market & Bistro’s massive menu was displayed on bright yellow and blue boards behind the register.  They offered various coffees; bagels; sandwiches; flatbreads; salads; and soups.  I ordered a ham, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich on an everything bagel.  I asked if they made their bagels in house, and was told by the clerk they had they shipped in from a bakery.  I also got a medium latte.

My bagel sandwich was placed in a small brown paper bag and wrapped in white paper.  I took it out and unwrapped one half.  Taking a bite I noticed the bagel was nicely toasted, and several slices of ham were piled on top of a fluffy egg covered in cheese.  It was nice to see the Bagel Cafe & Bistro did not skimp on their breakfast sandwich fillings.  The latte had a pillow like topping of steamed milk, and packed a nice caffeine punch to get my day started on the right note.

Service during my visit was fast and friendly.  Both the inside and outside of the restaurant were spotless, and I look forward to checking them out for lunch.  The Bagel Market & Bistro is open M-F 6:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.; Saturday 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.; and on Sunday from 7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.  They can be reached at (850) 765-0598, on Facebook, and at
