Grub Burger Bar

Following an afternoon of swimming, the entire Big Bend area Bonfanti clan loaded up and made our way to Grub Burger Bar.  The restaurant, located at 3425 Thomasville Road, is the latest to open its doors in an effort to satisfy the Capital City’s seemingly insatiable craving for grilled meat between two buns.

Grub has a hip modern feel, and is focused on burgers made from fresh in-house ground beef (a mixture of chuck and brisket).  Salads, sandwiches that don’t moo, and several starters, including ahi tuna, are also available.  The “Bar” in the name is not for show, as the restaurant offers a full drink menu, complete with beers, wines, margaritas, and even spiked milkshakes, for those with a sweet tooth.

My sister-in-law and I claimed a table and watched over the kids, while Kirsten and my brother, known by those close to him as Bobby Fitzgerald, ordered our meals.  Following a short wait, the meals were brought to our high top table.  I ordered the Thai Peanut burger with a side of onion rings.  The fresh baked bun (they are made hourly on site) was topped with a juicy patty of beef and covered with creamy peanut butter, roasted peanuts, cilantro lime, coconut flakes and Sambal mayonnaise.  My burger was not overcooked (a frustration of mine with restaurant burgers), but maintained a pink center which oozed with burger juices as I ate it.  The burger has a southeast Asian vibe and stood out as something different in a crowded burger market.  As for my side, the onion rings were thick cut, thinly battered loops of deliciousness.
